Dear JDMS Parents/Guardians,
Dr. Hazelton is proud to launch our district initiative Mission: Soar to Success!
Read. Solve. Reflect. Rise.
This exciting PK–Grade 12 initiative is designed to strengthen literacy, numeracy and reflective writing habits across our district in support of raising student achievement on the NJSLA and beyond.
Each day, students engage in reading, math and writing activities that promote critical thinking and growth. But as always, we need your help at home!
Your Englewood Raider will be coming home with a Reading Log and is expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes each day in addition to their in-class reading. Please review and sign your child’s log before it is returned to their teacher. The Reading Log will be due to teachers every Friday. (A blank copy of the reading log is also attached for your convenience.)
Now for the fun part; incentives and recognition! Each week, classrooms will enjoy check-ins and prizes to celebrate active readers who are making progress toward their goals. At the end of every month, our “Mission Milestones” will spotlight the top reader from each school. These outstanding students will have the exciting opportunity to be interviewed by Dr. Hazelton and featured on the district website. To make it even more special, Dr. Hazelton will personally award exclusive monthly prizes to our top achievers.
As a class incentive, each building will host a monthly pizza and ice cream party for the class in that building with the most logged minutes.
Reading is just one part of this initiative. Students will also have opportunities to earn recognition for math fluency and reflective writing/journaling as we continue working together to help every child reach their fullest potential.

La Dra. Hazelton se enorgullece de lanzar nuestra iniciativa distrital “Misión: ¡Volar hacia el Éxito!”
Leer. Resolver. Reflexionar. Elevarse.
Esta emocionante iniciativa para los grados PreK–12 está diseñada para fortalecer los hábitos de lectura, matemáticas y escritura reflexiva en todo nuestro distrito, con el objetivo de aumentar el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes en el NJSLA y más allá.
Cada día, los estudiantes participan en actividades de lectura, matemáticas y escritura que promueven el pensamiento crítico y el crecimiento académico. ¡Pero, como siempre, necesitamos su apoyo en casa!
Su estudiante de Englewood llegará a casa con un Registro de Lectura y se espera que lea un mínimo de 30 minutos diarios, además de la lectura que realiza en clase. Por favor, revise y firme el registro antes de devolverlo al maestro o maestra. El Registro de Lectura deberá entregarse todos los viernes. (También se adjunta una copia en blanco para su conveniencia).
Ahora viene la parte divertida: ¡incentivos y reconocimientos!
Cada semana, las clases recibirán revisiones y premios para celebrar a los lectores activos que están progresando hacia sus metas. Al final de cada mes, nuestros “Hitos de la Misión” destacarán al estudiante con más minutos de lectura en cada escuela. Estos estudiantes excepcionales tendrán la oportunidad de ser entrevistados por la Dra. Hazelton y aparecer en el sitio web del distrito. Para hacerlo aún más especial, la Dra. Hazelton otorgará premios exclusivos cada mes a nuestros estudiantes destacados.
Como incentivo adicional, cada edificio celebrará una fiesta mensual de pizza y helado para la clase que registre la mayor cantidad de minutos de lectura.
La lectura es solo una parte de esta iniciativa. Los estudiantes también tendrán oportunidades para recibir reconocimientos en fluidez matemática y escritura/journaling reflexiva, mientras continuamos trabajando juntos para ayudar a cada niño a alcanzar su máximo potencial.
